As you point out, Denver, this is totally silly. It's extremely frustrating that the vendor put forward instructions that are so obviously wrong. There is *no way* in my opinion that these could be the actual "scripts used to control compilation and installation" that they used internally.
If it were ,someone would have long ago figured out the switch in architectures in the middle of the instructions and have fixed it.
While it is theoretically possible that both chipsets are present in the device, even if that were true, two full sets of instructions should be provided, for each architecture.
