IMHO BitBucket is not a simple (nor performant BTW) platform and
certainly it is not free-as-in-freedom. GitLab perhaps is not
particularly simple or performant as well, but it is at least partially
(mostly?) free. Depending on your needs, its rich features may be a good
or bad thing for you.

I like Gitea (I’ve been using it for a few years), it is free,
relatively simple and very fast. There are already many interesting
projects at Codeberg, it seems a great place to host your code.

As long as you like GitLab (it seems).

Check out SourceHut (already mentioned at [1]). It is something quite
different from the above options, but hopefully you’ll like it.
