Sorry for my late reply on this thread.  I just want to note that we mainly
created this list for the purposes of discussing giving up GitHub (how to do
it yourself, how to campaign about it effectively, what alternatives exist,
what features don't exist in alternatives that we're trying to find, etc.).

The CoPilot issue and whether or not it infringes copyleft is a complex
topic.  Earlier this year, we'd already created a public mailing list to
discuss those issues (not just about CoPilot specifically, but generally the
issue of AI-assisted software authorship systems).  That list is over at:

I know it's a bit annoying to have two lists that are talking about topics
that are somewhat close to each other, but there are lots of reasons to Give
Up GitHub other than just the CoPilot thing (even though it was the “last
straw” for many of us), and also other entities besides GitHub may well enter
the CoPilot space (indeed, Amazon has already announced a product of this
