Exploring the possibility of better NPO support in LedgerSMB

Here is an offer for help. If there is anything else we can do, please ask.
1. I can work with the community on a self-assessment regarding 990 filing
and funds accounting. This should be of help (though not determinant) in
your evaluation. The self-assessment could also include a technical
overview, an understanding of where the project is going both technically
and from a market standpoint as well as what we see the weak points as
being more generally.
2. I am happy to provide tech support during your evaluation.
3. I am in the process of helping found a business that will do LedgerSMB
hosting. While I don't think that the project should assume that smaller
NPO's are going to want to use the software in a hosted environment, we'd
be happy to set things up so that we could host a LedgerSMB cluster for
your evaluation and the evaluation of any other NPO's that want to
participate in evaluating the software and providing feedback. Obviously
this would be for sample data only, but we'd provide unlimited databases
and users for this for both 1.3 and the 1.4 beta. The primary goal would
be to encourage collaboration by making the evaluation version internet
accessible for participants. This would be a pure community donation. We
wouldn't be doing it to expect that folks would sign up for our hosting
services. This would not be a substitute for any local evaluation the
Conservancy might want to do, but it might be a welcome addition.
Best wishes,
Chris Travers
