[FOSSY-attendees] Complete Corresponding Summary of FOSSY day 1

FOSSY Organizing Team conference at sfconservancy.org
Fri Aug 1 01:11:06 UTC 2025

And that's a wrap on day one!

Thanks to everyone who attended today! It was so great to see both new
and familiar faces.

Next up is our social event tonight at Punchbowl Social (about an 18
minute walk from the venue [0]) from 7-10pm. Food will be provided and
drinks available for purchase. There will be a variety of games to play,
and all ages are welcome. Make sure to bring your badge.

Tomorrow, registration will be open at 8:45am, and continental breakfast
will be available in the Ballroom starting at 9:15am. Be sure to come by
before the keynote to grab a bite and some caffeine.

The keynote will begin at 9:45am, also in the Ballroom. "Assessing and
Managing threats to the Nonprofit Infrastructure of FOSS" will be a
conversation between Allen Gunn, executive director of Aspiration, and
SFC's Pono Takamori, about the current challenges facing fiscal
sponsorship organizations, how the decline in funding for these
organizations will impact FOSS generally, and how to assess a variety of
threats in the US and globally.

After the keynote, SFC will present its first ever Distinguished Service
Award in Free Software, which includes a cash gift of $1,024 (not, as
Bradley misread from his note of “0b10,000,000,000 prize” in binary
during the morning announcements, $10 BILLION). We hope you'll join us
to show our profound appreciation for the recipient's long track record
of exceptional service.

At 10:45am, tracks on Databases, Supporting User Groups, FOSS in
Education, Science of Community, and Wild Card will commence.

We'll have printed schedules at registration in the morning, but you can
also find out what's happening the rest of the day on:

https://2025.fossy.us/schedule/#friday

We'll be selling OpenWrt Ones (you can buy with cash or electronically)
at the front desk for $128. If you buy it here, you'll also become a
Sustainer of Software Freedom Conservancy for the year. The purchase
price will help power our organization and make possible more efforts to
bring software freedom to the world. So stop by to take a look and maybe
bring home a new piece of open tech!

Thank you for sharing so much about the event today on social media!
Please keep contributing any highlights or photos (with proper
permission and licensing) tagged with #FOSSY25 on the Fediverse. We'll
continue posting from https://social.sfconservancy.org/conservancy

A few other logistics notes:
  * There are gender neutral bathrooms on the 3rd floor mezzanine and
single stall gender neutral bathrooms in the basement (accessible by
    stairs and elevator).
  * You can find (or return) any lost and found items at the
    registration desk.
  * Make sure to enter the building on the Broadway side (east side of
the building). You can exit out of any of the doors, but only the
"front" entrance will be open each day.
  * If you go through any of the doors on the 3rd floor that lead
outside, you will not be able to get back in -- they lock behind
    you.
  * If you ask a question during the keynote or a talk, you might be on
video. So be mindful if you are trying to avoid being recorded (even
if you are wearing a red lanyard).

For your friends and colleagues who aren't here and may be experiencing
FOMO, please share the livestream link at:

We'll see you all bright and early tomorrow!
