Thanks to everyone who came out to our keynote with Allen Gunn from
Aspiration, "Assessing and Managing threats to the Nonprofit
Infrastructure of FOSS". It was a great conversation with Pono Takamori
from Software Freedom Conservancy. Then we celebrated presenting Lance
Albertson with the inaugural Distinguished Service in Software Freedom
Award. Thanks so much to Lance for all his hard work over the years! You
can read and share the award announcement at
<https://sfconservancy.org/news/2025/aug/01/distinguished-award-in-lance-albertson/>.

Today the Databases and Supporting User Groups tracks had a great
variety of talks. With practical knowledge like PostgresQL's Write-Ahead
Log to Rich Bowen's advice on Raising the Bar on Your Conference
Presentation. The FOSS in Education, Science of Community, and Wild Card
tracks began today and presented discussions, stories and technical
presentations.

Registration will be open tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 8:45am.
Breakfast will be available in the Ballroom at 9:15am, and the keynote
will begin in the same room at 9:45am.

In the keynote tomorrow you'll hear from the team behind Software
Freedom Conservancy's case against Vizio. With the upcoming hearing in
September, you'll hear about the latest developments and goals of the
case, directly from them.

Saturday's tracks du jour are as follows
<https://2025.fossy.us/schedule/#saturday> :

XMPP for all your federated, secure and open communication needs. The
Legal track includes 2 more talks if you find yourself wanting more
content after the keynote. FOSS in Education continues for its second
day, continuing its exceptional track record. Science of Community
similarly continues for a second day of great talks. Our Wild Card track
also continues with a mix of technical, social and policy oriented, and
security related presentations.

There are still a couple slots left for five-minute lightning talks, so
be sure to sign up early to get on the list! See the front desk to sign
up. You can also find infomation about Sunday afternoon's Unconference
at the front desk. We've got a whiteboard for brainstorming ideas where
you can add your own thoughts too.

We have sold several OpenWRT One routers today, but we do have more
left! You can purchase one using either cash or a card at the
registration desk -- a great way to add more free software to your
household and directly support the OpenWrt project (as well as becoming
a Sustainer of Software Freedom Conservancy).

Don't forget to follow @conservancy at social.sfconservancy.org for updates
during the conference, and share your own media and thoughts with
#FOSSY25.

Tomorrow the Portland State University Farmer's Market is happening from
8:30-2pm right outside the back of the building. This also means parking
might be more difficult if you are driving in. Please feel free to scope
it before the opening keynote or pop down for lunch!

A few other logistics notes:
  * There are gender neutral bathrooms on the 3rd floor mezzanine and
single stall gender neutral bathrooms in the basement (accessible by
    stairs and elevator).
  * Make sure to enter the building on the Broadway side (east side of
the building). You can exit out of any of the doors, but only the
"front" entrance will be open each day. If you walk out of any of
the doors on the 3rd floor going outside, they will lock behind you.
  * Just a reminder, that if you ask a question during the keynote or a
talk, you might be on video. So be mindful if you are trying to
avoid being recorded (even if you are wearing a red lanyard).
  * We've had a few items returned to the front desk in the lost and
found, so come ask the front desk about it if you are missing
    something

Weekend edition commence!
