What a great day! We were thrilled to answer so many of your questions
in the keynote presented by the SFC team about the Vizio lawsuit. As we
approach the hearing in September, if you are interested in traveling to
publicly comment on the trial, you can apply to have your trip paid for
<https://sfconservancy.org/news/2025/jul/24/travel-grants-for-vizio-trial-to-foss-community/>
Today the XMPP track saw a number of important talks promoting critical
self-hosted communications software. The FOSS for Education track ended
its second day with some really interesting research about how FOSS is
built and and collaborated on. Science of Community also wrapped its
second day with both research based talks and practical advice on
helping your communities. The Legal and Wild Card tracks drew large
crowds.
Registration will be open tomorrow (Sunday) morning at 8:45am. Breakfast
will be available in the Ballroom at 9:15am, and the keynote will begin
in the same room at 9:45am (more on that below).
We will have a luggage drop available just when you enter the ballroom.
If you could take a picture of yourself with your bag at the drop off,
we will use that to verify you when you pick it up. If you do not have a
photo compatible phone, we applaud that! Instead, we can give you a slip
of paper to verify that your bag is yours.
The keynote tomorrow will feature a conversation with OpenSignal, the
501c3 non-profit behind FOSSY's AV. They'll talk about the ways they
push back against the proprietary nature of their industry by using
FOSS. They're to thank for the great streaming setup we've had at
<https://restreamer.opensignalpdx.org/>.
Tomorrow, we're changing things up. After the keynote, we'll be
featuring 5-minute lightning talks in the ballroom. Be sure to grab some
coffee and come hear what people have to (quickly) say!

And be sure to join us for the Unconference hosted by Aaron Wolf and Wm
Salt Hale. Even if you think you don't think you have anything
interesting to talk about, we assure you that you do :) Please think
about something you'd like to talk or host a discussion about. You are
welcome to post topics through lunch tomorrow. Please review the posted
topics and mark your interest on the sticky note. A lot have been added
since this morning so even if you marked some, make sure to take a
second look! We'll have more information at 13:45 after lunch and then
present the schedule in the ballroom.
Follow @conservancy at social.sfconservancy.org for updates during the
conference, and share your own media and thoughts with #FOSSY25.
A few other logistics notes:
* There are gender neutral bathrooms on the 3rd floor mezzanine and
single stall gender neutral bathrooms in the basement (accessible by
stairs and elevator).
* Make sure to enter the building on the Broadway side (east side of
the building). You can exit out of any of the doors, but only the
"front" entrance will be open each day. If you walk out of any of
the doors on the 3rd floor going outside, they will lock behind you.
* Just a reminder, that if you ask a question during the keynote or a
talk, you might be on video. So be mindful if you are trying to
avoid being recorded (even if you are wearing a red lanyard).
* We've had a few items returned to the front desk in the lost and
found, so come ask the front desk about it if you are missing
something. Especially if it's a water bottle.
One more day to go!
-FOSSY Organizing Team
PS: We'll be sending a short survey out after the conference to get your
feedback on things we can improve and what you enjoyed. It helps us
immensely if you respond (both with getting sponsors for next year and
just improving the quality of the conference), so we really appreciate
your time.
