[FOSSY-attendees] Complete Corresponding Summary of day 1 FOSSY 24
FOSSY Organizers
conference at sfconservancy.org
Fri Aug 2 01:31:34 UTC 2024
What a great first day of FOSSY 24!
Thank you all for making this conference happen. It's so incredible to
be surrounded by such supportive community and to see everyone having a
great time.
The ARM track was full of great technical talks, the Supporting User
Groups talked about how to be a good community member, and the XMPP
track demonstrated how free and open technology can improve our human
communications.
Tomorrow the ARM track continues and is joined by Science of Community,
"Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion and FOSS", Licensing and Legal Issues,
and FOSS For Education. We'll have printed schedules at registration,
but you can find out what's happening on:
https://2024.fossy.us/schedule/#friday
Registration will be open at 8:45am, and continental breakfast will be
available in the Ballroom starting at 9:15am. Be sure to come by before
the keynote to grab a bite and some caffeine.
The keynote will begin at 9:45am, also in the Ballroom. Oregon State
University Open Source Lab (OSUOSL) director Lance Albertson will talk
about "20+ years of the OSU Open Source Lab". And then Software Freedom
Conservancy staffer Daniel Pono Takamori will host a conversation with
other OSL alumni to discuss the legacy and its impact on the students.
The Lab is an incredibly important and free vendor-neutral colocation
hosting facility that has provided a variety of hosting services for
FOSS projects from around the world since 2003.
And just a reminder, that if you ask a question during the keynote or
a talk, you might be on video. So be mindful if you are trying to avoid
being recorded (even if you are wearing a red lanyard).
It was heartening to see all the social media activity from the event
today: Please keep contributing any highlights or photos (with proper
permission and licensing) tagged with #FOSSY24 on the Fediverse.
A few other logistics notes:
* There are gender neutral bathrooms on the 4th floor and single stall
gender neutral bathrooms in the basement (accessible by stairs and
elevator).
* You can find any lost and found items at the registration desk.
* Make sure to enter the building on the Broadway side (east side of
the building). You can exit out of any of the doors, but only the
"front" entrance will be open each day.
We'll see you all bright and early tomorrow!
